The only reason I started to use the original Advanced Night Repair Eye was because I needed a mini sample size to take away with me to a Hen Party. Do you know how hard it to find a small eye cream? It is nearly impossible so when I had a mini size in a gift with purchase I held on to it for dear life. Of course it is typical that as soon as I try it and really enjoy it, Estee Lauder revamp it and launch a new and improved version, called the Advanced Night Repair Eye Supercharged Complex.
Luckily for me, my beauty idol is as in love with Advanced Night Repair as I am. I mean most people who have tried it love it but it means that she is an ambassador for the ANR range. Alessandra Steinherr is a skincare goddess and her approval of a product is a good sign. As an ambassador, Alessandra quite often dishes out samples of the products for people to try and her latest sample was something I was quick to sign up for. (Honestly you need to follow her Instagram and you need to be quick to get one of her samples.) A few weeks ago, on Alessandra's Instastories, she was offering free samples of the new Estee Lauder ANR Eye Supercharged. Alessandra had been promoting it for weeks and I was already thinking about trying it. I already knew I liked the original and I wanted to see how this new one compared. Alessandra gave me (and others) the perfect opportunity to test it out with a deluxe sample pot of the eye cream.
The Formula
With all of the Advanced Night Repair products I have tried, they all have a common theme, they are all gentle but hardworking and this Supercharged eye cream is no different. The texture of this eye product is gel based and it is really silky feeling so it doesn't sit on top of your skin. The ANR Supercharged eye cream sinks in really quickly so if you are looking something with quite a light texture, this is a good one. I've always loved the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment as it sets up my under eye, ready for concealer and it stops my concealer looking too thick and the ANR eye cream does exactly the same but doesn't take as long to sink in.
The idea of this product helping to protect your eye area from the effects of pollution reminds me of the concept of the new Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly which is also designed to protect the skin from pollution. I love that brands are thinking about the effect of pollution and helping to protect against it as it is a growing problem that our skin is facing. Even though this helps to protect the skin it does not make a thick barrier, in fact this is a really light gel texture. I'm so used to using the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment which requires me to warm it up before I apply it to my under eyes so I always rub the ANR eye between my fingers before applying it but it really is not necessary as it is already very light.
Results
As soon as my sample arrived, I could not wait to start using the ANR Eye Supercharged. Obviously I have seen Alessandra talk about it quite a lot but there was one thing that really appealed to me when she spoke about it, I was really interested in the idea that it helps to protect your under eyes from blue light. I am a receptionist who literally sits in front of a computer all day browsing the internet and then when I come home, I work on my blog so I spend a ridiculous amount of time on a computer and that doesn't even count the time I spend on my phone. Now-a-days we are all ridiculously busy and a big part of this is our phones; it only makes sense that the harsh light from our phones does damage to your skin. This isn't new information either; whenever I got to the Opticians, which is a lot as a glasses and contact lense wearer, they always ask how much time I spend looking a screen and it is because of the damage the light causes. When I saw that this was one of the big changes to the product, I wanted to see if it would make a difference.
Not only does this help to prevent the damage caused by looking a screen all the time but it helps a multitude of external factors. On the card that was send with the sample it states that this eye cream helps to:
- Renews to improve the look of every key sign of eye aging: dark circles, puffiness, lines, dryness
- Brightens and reduces the look of fatigue
- Hydrates for 24 hours
- Fights the look of damage from environmental assaults and blue light damage
I mean that is a lot of claims but for me it does work on all of these factors. I have been testing this eye cream for a good couple of weeks now and when I use it my eye area certainly looks less puffy as it does have a cooling effect on the eye area. I haven't suffered with dry skin around my eyes which sometimes I can do with eye creams which are overly thick or perhaps not gentle enough. Recently I have had dark circles as I have not been sleeping well but they don't seem to have been as drastic as they can be when I haven't been sleeping properly. Generally overall my eye area looks healthy which is what everyone wants. The anti-aging part is something I will not be able to tell if it works immediately, I have to wait to find out if it gives results as at 25 I shouldn't be showing too many signs of aging. Around the eyes is really where ageing starts to show first so if I'm not seeing it there, it is a good sign.

The Old Vs. The New
Having only just opened a deluxe sample size of the old version of the Advanced Night Repair Eye cream, I have a pretty good comparison of the two products. I am pleased to say not much has changed so if you are an avid fan, I do not think you will be disappointed by the change. I realise the picture above is not the most clear as it is rather difficult to take pictures inside a dark container but you should be able to tell that they are slightly different colours. The new Supercharged formula is slightly more creamy white whereas the older one is slightly more yellow tinted. The shade of the original eye cream is more reminiscent of the ANR serum which is a yellow serum. Other than a slight colour change, the only real difference is that the Supercharged formula is slightly thicker, when I say thicker, it is still a gel formula so it hasn't been replaced by a heavy cream, it is just a tiny bit thicker. It still applies in the beautifully light way that the original formula did and it still melts into the skin but it is just a subtle difference I noticed when comparing the two.
Other than these two subtle differences, I have not noticed any real change between the two formulas, which could a good or bad thing. Good because I loved the original and didn't feel like it needed to change. Bad, because what was the point in reformulating it? I really love the concept of the addition of the blue light protect and I think it is something that we all need due to the amount that we look at our computer screens but there is no real way for the average consumer to be able to see the results from this addition, except over time. I guess I should be hoping that this eye cream will keep me looking young and only time can tell with that one. For the immediate effects, I've seen no improvement in my eye area since I have swapped eye creams but at the same time I haven't seen a decrease in the condition of my eye area which is most definitely a good thing. In my personal opinion if you were a fan of the old formula, there is no reason you will not like this one as the texture is basically the same and you do get the same amazing results, you just get the added bonus of it helping against blue light and pollution.
Estee Lauder must know how much I love the Advanced Night Repair range as not even a week after I had received my sample, there was an advertisement sent to me about going to my local counter to have a Digital Detox Treatment and Alessandra Steinherr was once again on the front of the letter. I mean they know my purchase history which probably gives away the fact that I have repuchased the serum constantly over the past couple of years but still clearly they know their marketing.
I am always thankful to Alessandra whenever she offers samples for products she loves. Previously I managed to get a sample of the IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara through Alessandra's Instagram (which is a beauty haven) and it is currently my top mascara of 2018 and it is easily in my top 5 mascaras ever, it is amazing. If you want to read my full review I will link it here: IT Cosmetics: Superhero Mascara but the point I am trying to make is that Alessandra recommends some bomb products and it is worth following her on Instagram as quite often she will give out samples.
Ever since I heard that Estee Lauder were relaunching the Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream I was intrigued to try it as I liked the original and I did question how they could improve it but Estee Lauder have managed it. If it wasn't for receiving this sample, this review wouldn't have been written for a long old time as I was reluctant to spend too much money on it without knowing whether it would be worth it. Now that I have tried it, I will definitely buy a tub of this when I run out of my current eye cream.
